Slaven Bilic reportedly contacted the West Ham United team after he had been sacked by the club.
On Monday, the East London outfit announced the departure of the Croatian following a two-and-a-half-year spell.
According to The Mirror, Bilic called up the players to ask them what went wrong, and it is understood that the team were honest in their assessment.
The 49-year-old reportedly heard that he was too relaxed when it came to players arriving late for training, while the quality of the coach's training sessions also came under fire.
David Moyes was appointed as the Hammers' new boss just one day after Bilic was sacked.
