West Ham United striker Andy Carroll has returned home to England after being ruled out of the club's tour of New Zealand.
The England international suffered an ankle injury earlier this week and was told that he would sit out the two remaining tour games.
However, after discovering that Carroll had twisted his ankle, he was flown back immediately to receive further treatment, the son of club owner David Sullivan revealed on Twitter.
"Carroll has twisted ankle and has gone back to England for treatment," Jack Sullivan said. "We will know more in a few days but hope he will be back 4 [sic] Spurs."
West Ham lost their opening tour game 2-0 against Wellington Phoenix.
