West Ham United's assistant manager Neil McDonald has expressed his delight at the way his side played during their pre-season trip to Southend United earlier today.
The Hammers ran out 3-0 winners against their Essex-based opponents thanks to goals from Nicky Maynard, Jordan Spence and Sam Baldock.
"We passed the ball really well and kept it moving," McDonald told the club's official website. "We've been working on keeping the ball and passing and moving during the past two weeks and we now just need to build their fitness up. We played some really nice stuff at times.
"They're getting stronger and they're getting fitter, which is what pre-season is all about. It was nice to get some goals as well, which was great."
West Ham's next fixture is a trip to Oxford United on Tuesday evening.
