Emmerson Boyce disappointed with defeat to Zulte Waregem

Emmerson Boyce says that Wigan Athletic should have taken their chances after losing to Zulte Waregem in the Europa League.

Wigan Athetlic captain Emmerson Boyce has said that he is disappointed after the club's Europa League defeat to Zulte Waregem.

The Latics were beaten 2-1 at the DW Stadium and face an uphill task to qualify for the knockout stages.

"We're very disappointed, we controlled game, especially in the first half, but their first goal was soft," BBC Sport quotes him as saying. "After that we could not get a foothold. The second goal was a hammer blow, we thought we'd done enough. We just hope the other team does us a favour.

"It was the story of our season, we create so many chances but don't put them away. We should have been home and dry, especially at half time.

"We're Wigan we like doing things the hard way. Hopefully the other result will go our way."

Wigan are now third in the Group D table, having been overtaken by tonight's opponents.
