Steve Bruce is thought to be keen on a return to former club Wigan Athletic.
The 51-year-old, who had two separate spells in charge at the DW Stadium, was sacked as manager of Sunderland last year.
The former Manchester United defender is now waiting on current boss Roberto Martinez's next move, according to The Mirror.
Martinez flew out to Miami on Thursday to hold talks with Liverpool over their managerial vacancy.
However, Hull City are interested in Bruce after they dismissed Nick Barmby earlier this month.
