Martinez apologises to McCarthy

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has apologised to his opposite number Mick McCarthy over the spitting incident which has seen Latics captain Antolin Alcaraz suspended for three games.

The Wigan skipper was charged after video footage showed him spitting at Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Richard Stearman.

Wolves boss McCarthy has revealed that his counterpart Martinez regrets his player's actions at Molineux.

"What happened is unacceptable," McCarthy told reporters. "I have spoken to Roberto and he apologised on behalf of the club."

The match ended in a 3-1 victory to Wolves.
