Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez admits that his side must improve their home form if they are to survive in the Premier League.

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has told his players that they must improve defensively at the DW Stadium.

The Latics have won just twice at home in 13 Premier Leagues matches, and Martinez believes that record needs to get better if they are to avoid relegation to the Championship.

Martinez told the Daily Star: "We have been the better side in most of our games at home. We have just had a crazy period when we haven't been able to defend well and we've been punished.

"It's impossible to win games at this level when you are having to overcome a two or three-goal deficit every time.

"The home form will be vital and with six games to come at the DW, we need to take advantage of that."

Wigan host Liverpool on Saturday evening.
