Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez has confirmed that Hugo Rodallega has undergone a scan on a troublesome knee injury.
The 26-year-old missed Saturday's 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion, a result which left the Latics in 19th spot in the Premier League table.
Martinez had hoped to have the Colombian available for the remainder of the season, but he has revealed that the extent of the injury is not yet clear.
"The injury is far worse than we first thought, because we initially expected him to have been okay for West Brom. That obviously wasn't the case, but we're hoping it's not a serious problem because we need Hugo at his best for the rest of the season," Martinez told The Wigan Evening Post.
"Hugo's had a scan and we hope to have a clear idea over the next day or two whether he has a chance of playing against Liverpool at the weekend."
Rodallega has scored 24 goals in 107 games for the club.
