Wigan earn promotion back to the Championship after one year in League One thanks to a 4-0 thrashing of Fleetwood Town in Saturday's match at Highbury Stadium.

Wigan Athletic have secured promotion back to the Championship thanks to a 4-0 thrashing of Fleetwood Town in Saturday's League One encounter at Highbury Stadium.

Max Power and Gavin Massey scored to put the Latics two goals up at the break, while Dan Burn and Chey Dunkley rounded off the win after the restart to seal promotion.

Shrewsbury Town's 1-1 draw against already-relegated Bury means that Paul Cook's charges now sit 10 points clear of third place with three games to go.

Seven points from their remaining three games will be enough for Wigan to break the 100-point barrier and finish the season as champions of the third tier.

Promotion has capped a memorable season in which Wigan also reached the FA Cup quarter-finals, beating Premier League champions Manchester City and two other top-flight teams.
