Wigan Athletic are reportedly planning to offer Paul Scholes a position on the club's backroom staff.
The ex-England international has been strongly linked with the vacant Under-23s coaching position at his former club Manchester United, but the Latics are allegedly hoping to pip the Red Devils to his services, The Mirror reports.
Warren Joyce, who recently took over as Wigan manager following the departure of Gary Caldwell, has earmarked Scholes as a potential addition to his revamped coaching team.
Scholes is yet to take on a coaching role since retiring from professional football in 2013 and does not possess a UEFA Pro Licence coaching badge.
Joyce has signed a three-and-a-half year deal at Wigan, joining the club as they lie in 22nd place in the Championship.
