Late Shinji Kagawa goal earns Borussia Dortmund vital win

Shinji Kagawa scores in added time to seal a 2-1 win for Borussia Dortmund away at Wolfsburg.

Borussia Dortmund score in added time to beat Wolfsburg 2-1 at the Wolkswagen Arena and close the gap at the top of the Bundesliga.

Dortmund hit the bar early on as Ilkay Gundogan earned a free kick 25 yards out and the German international took it himself, only to see it smash the frame of the goal, while Sven Bender could only clatter the crossbar moments later after he connected with a Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The away side did eventually find the breakthrough after Mkhitaryan stole the ball off Joshua Guilavogui and played in Marco Reus, who rounded Diego Benaglio before slotting it home to give Thomas Tuchel's men a deserved lead.

Naldo almost provided an instant equaliser after he headed Vierinha's corner towards goal but it was Mkhitaryan who was there to clear the ball off the line.

The second half saw Julian Draxler create a big opening for the home side as he drove at the Dortmund defence before his mazy run was brought to an end by Roman Burki.

The Swiss international was then forced into a number of saves to deny the home side as Bas Dost, Draxler and Ricardo Rodriguez all saw efforts saved by the Dortmund goalkeeper as Wolfsburg searched for an equaliser.

Wolfsburg earned themselves a penalty in the final minute of the game as Andre Schurrle was brought down by Lukasz Piszczek and Rodriguez tucked away the spot kick.

However, substitute Shinji Kagawa stole all three points in added time as Mkhitaryan played the ball first time to the Japanese international and he slotted the ball past Benaglio to earn them a vital three points.

The win moves Dortmund just five points behind league leaders Bayern Munich while Wolfsburg stay fifth in the Bundesliga table.
