Wolfsburg stunned by Hannover comeback

Hannover come from behind to hold Wolfsburg a 2-2 draw as they move further clear of the Bundesliga relegation zone.

Hannover boosted their Bundesliga survival bid with an impressive display as they fought back from two goals behind to hold Wolfsburg to a 2-2 draw.

It could have been a very different story for the visitors had Joselu taken his early chance, but Diego Benaglio made a fine save from a powerful header to frustrate the visitors.

Wolfsburg quickly took control of the match, and they were ahead midway through the first half when Kevin de Bruyne found the space to deliver a cross which was calmly converted by Bas Dost.

Hannover struggled to recover from the setback, and the hosts doubled their lead before the break Ivan Perisic linked with De Bruyne before picking out the top corner.

After spending long spells of the first half on the back foot, Hannover got back in the game just after the interval when half-time substitute Jimmy Briand headed in an Edgar Prib cross.

The visitors were back on level terms just before the hour mark thanks to Salif Sane, who left Benaglio motionless with a bicycle kick a couple of minutes after Perisic had rattled the crossbar at the other end.
