Wolfsburg terminate Nicklas Bendtner's contract

Wolfsburg terminate the contract of Nicklas Bendtner following a two-year spell.

Nicklas Bendtner has left Wolfsburg after his contract was terminated by the Bundesliga club.

Since joining the German outfit in 2014, the 28-year-old made 47 appearances, scoring nine goals, but a string of disciplinary problems have led to the forward's exit.

Bendtner was fined in February for driving a Mercedes S-Class to training at the club, which is owned by manufacturer Volkswagen.

The former Arsenal player was also fined a fortnight ago for turning up 45 minutes late for a training session, and was ordered to train alone.

Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs told the club's official website: "Both Nicklas and ourselves had high hopes of his engagement at VfL Wolfsburg, but after two years, we have had to ascertain that the expectations were neither fulfilled for him nor for us and a continued cooperation made no sense for either side.

"For that reason, the mutual decision to end our association prematurely is thus the best solution for all parties. We wish Nicklas all the very best for his future career."

Bendtner spent nine years at Arsenal.
