McCarthy hails "terrific" fans

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Mick McCarthy has described the club's fans as "terrific" during this evening's Carling Cup tie with Manchester City.

McCarthy's words are in stark contrast to the weekend, where he branded certain sections of the Molineux faithful "mindless idiots".

Wolves slumped to a 5-2 defeat to City tonight, but no jeers were heard from the supporters, something that pleased the boss.

"It's been like that for most of the time. You know my thoughts from Saturday and I still feel that way, but the fans have been fantastic to me for five years," he told Sky Sports News.

"I have said my bit and I am finished on that score.

"They were terrific tonight, they have supported us and I think they have seen a performance from a few of them that will please them."

Wolves face City again at the weekend in a Premier League fixture.
