McCarthy wary of Fletcher interest

Mick McCarthy has said that he is worried that in-form striker Steven Fletcher could soon attract interest from bigger clubs.

The Scottish international scored his 16th goal for Wolves during Saturday's 4-1 loss to Manchester United.

"Sixteen in 23 [appearances] is pretty good going by anyone's standards," McCarthy said.

"Maybe his profile is something to do with this - his personality as well, because he doesn't court publicity.

"Ultimately, if you score as many goals as he is doing, then it will find you, won't it?"

Fletcher was pulled from the pitch on Saturday with a calf problem, and McCarthy admits that he needs Fletcher fit for the festive period.

"We weren't going to get four goals to win the game, so I think it was wise to take him off.

"We need him fit because he has been terrific and prolific when he has been."

Wolves are currently 17th in the Premier League with 14 points from 15 games.
