Wolverhampton Wanderers win one red-card appeal, lose the other

Wolverhampton Wanderers overturn the red card shown to Rajiv van la Parra against Bournemouth, but fail with their appeal against Matt Doherty's dismissal.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have successfully overturned Rajiv van la Parra's straight red card from the match against Bournemouth on Saturday, but have failed in their appeal against Matt Doherty's dismissal.

Wolves were on course to end their four-game losing streak when Van La Parra was shown a straight red, the first card of any colour he has received this season, after an aerial challenge.

Kenny Jackett's men then conceded twice late on to lose the game 2-1 and Doherty was given his marching orders in injury time following a rash lunge. After the game Wolves chairman Steve Morgan confronted referee Mike Jones and has since been charged by the Football Association.

Wolves confirmed this evening that Van La Parra would now be available to face Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday but that Doherty would have to serve a three-game ban.

The right-back will now miss Saturday's trip to Hillsborough, the home match against Brighton & Hove Albion on December 20 and the Boxing Day game at Watford.
