Wolverhampton Wanderers will be hoping to set a club record when they face Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Wolverhampton Wanderers will hope to set a new club record against Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon.

The two Midlands outfit have endured indifferent spells in the Premier League, Wolves sitting in 13th spot and Forest down in 16th position in the standings.

On a positive note, both clubs are outside of the relegation zone, but just four points separate 12th and bottom place, currently held by Southampton.

That scenario heightens the stakes ahead of the showdown at the City Ground this weekend, with both Steve Cooper and Julen Lopetegui aware that a win or defeat could prove pivotal come the end of the season.

These teams are no strangers to each other during 2022-23 with an EFL Cup quarter-final tie taking place at Forest in January after Wolves won the reverse fixture in the Premier League in October.

On that particular visit to the City Ground, Wolves lost out on penalties after the match had ended 1-1 in normal time, but Wolves have fared better in the East Midlands when playing Forest in league matches.

Two victories have been recorded in succession, the first occurring in December 2016 when Helder Costa and Ivan Cavaleiro got on the scoresheet for the visitors.

In September 2017, Wolves' Championship promotion campaign, two strikes from Diogo Jota secured maximum points for Wolves, and they also have a 4-0 win at Forest in the EFL Cup as recently as August 2021.

However, Wolves have never recorded three consecutive away triumphs in the league versus Forest, that achievement available to them on Saturday.

This will be the first time since 1983 where Forest have played host to Wolves in a top-flight fixture, Forest winning by a 5-0 scoreline 30 years ago.

Forest had been on a nine-game undefeated streak at the City Ground in the Premier League before they went down to a last-gasp Newcastle United penalty before the international break.

Wolves have only collected four points from their most recent five away games, and they make the short trip to Nottingham on the back of losing to Liverpool and Newcastle on their travels.
