Wolverhampton Wanderers may reportedly be provided with the opportunity to sign Sevilla midfielder Isco during the January transfer window.

Wolverhampton Wanderers may reportedly attempt to sign Sevilla midfielder Isco during the January transfer window.

Last month, the Premier League outfit confirmed that they had appointed Julen Lopetegui, formerly of Sevilla, as their new head coach.

Since then, Wolves have been linked with a number of players from La Liga, Lopetegui acknowledging himself that he holds an interest in Atletico Madrid pair Felipe and Matheus Cunha.

Reports have suggested that Wolves have made progress in their efforts to sign the centre-back and versatile forward, two areas which need strengthening at the midway point of the campaign.

However, according to Marca, the West Midlands side could be presented with the opportunity to add a creative midfielder to their ranks.

The report suggests that Isco is likely to depart Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan at the turn of the year having fallen out with sporting director Monchi.

Isco was initially signed for Sevilla when Lopetegui was in charge, the Spain international making as many as 15 starts and three substitute outings in La Liga and the Champions League this campaign.

Some of his best form has been produced since the exit of Lopetegui, the 30-year-old starring in a 3-0 win over Copenhagen and supply the corner for Rafa Mir's header versus Manchester City.

Nevertheless, Sevilla are ready to push for Isco's exit at the earliest opportunity, throwing open the door to a reunion with Lopetegui in England at a time when Wolves sit bottom of the Premier League.

The report acknowledges that super-agent Jorge Mendes may have a part to play in any negotiations, while Sevilla will want to benefit financially despite their alleged direct action in wanting Isco out of the club.

When signing for Sevilla on a free transfer in the summer, Isco only penned a two-year contract, something which could theoretically help with any move elsewhere.

If Wolves do pursue Isco, they are expected to face competition, most likely from Spanish clubs and high-profile teams from another nations.

Isco has never plied his trade outside of Spain, making a total of 463 appearances for Valencia, Malaga, Real Madrid and his current team.
