Wolverhampton Wanderers close in on Benfica captain Luisao

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly close to a deal for Benfica's Brazilian captain Luisao.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly close to agreeing a deal for veteran Benfica defender Luisao.

According to media reports in Portugal, the 35-year-old will join the Championship side on a two-year deal after 13 seasons with the Primeira Liga champions, where he has won five league titles and 12 domestic cups.

The Brazil international is thought to have flown to London to hold talks with Wolves' new Chinese owners Fosun, super-agent Jorge Mendes and Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira, who has been in England as the guest of Wolves for the last week.

If he signs, Luisao will be the third Benfica player to join Wolves in a matter of weeks following the arrivals of Joao Teixeira and Helder Costa on loan deals.

Walter Zenga's side are also thought to be hours away from confirming the signing of Benfica striker Anderson Talisca in a £20m deal, while they have also been linked with a move for their star midfielder Andre Carrillo.
