Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain forward Hugo Ekitike.

A year on from sitting at the bottom of the Premier League table, Wolves are now regarded as fringe contenders for European qualification after a transformation under Gary O'Neil.

Despite being restricted in the transfer market in the summer, the West Midlands outfit have proven to be one of the most entertaining sides in the top flight, recently putting together a three-match winning streak to sit in 11th position in the standings.

However, Wolves are in the market for at least one new forward, a result of Fabio Silva having been loaned out to Scottish giants Rangers.

With Sasa Kalajdzic also being linked with a switch to a Bundesliga club, Wolves are now assessing their options, but with FFP regulations still in mind.

Although Wolves made a substantial profit in the summer, they are still required to err on the side of caution this month, yet that will not stop them doing business.

According to RMC Sport, Wolves are in a strong position to secure a deal for Ekitike, who is out of favour at PSG.

The French giants won the race to sign Ekitike in the summer of 2022, initially signing him on loan but committing to a future €35m deal.

Nevertheless, the transfer has largely proven to be a disaster, with the 21-year-old contributing just four goals and four assists from 33 appearances in all competitions.

Furthermore, Ekitike has made just one nine-minute outing for PSG all season, effectively making him surplus to requirements and available for a January transfer.

PSG are said to be open to a loan deal with the option to buy, a scenario that would likely suit Wolves given that they will have more financial leeway in the summer.

While there is said to be rival interest from Germany, the report cites Wolves' previous business with PSG as something that could play into their favour.

Last January, the two teams successfully negotiated the transfer of Pablo Sarabia to Wolves, and it is indicated that terms could be agreed that suit all parties.
