Wolverhampton Wanderers were reportedly turned down by both Juventus defender Daniele Rugani and AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie on transfer deadline day.
Wolves have already picked up Kessie's former teammate Patrick Cutrone, handing him their number 10 shirt, while also bringing in young midfielders Pedro Neto and Bruno Jordao from another Serie A club in Lazio.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Nuno Espirito Santo's side are thought to have had bids of around €30m (£28m) accepted by both clubs, but the players chose to reject the move when approached to discuss personal terms.
Despite being rejected by Rugani, a central defender did arrive at Molineux in the form of Real Madrid's Jesus Vallejo on a season-long loan.
Raul Jimenez and Leander Dendoncker's loan deals were also made permanent as Wolves prepare for a Europa League campaign following their impressive seventh-placed finish last term.
