Preview: Wrexham vs. Torquay United - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's National League clash between Wrexham and Torquay United, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Wrexham will be looking to continue their impressive form in the National League as they host Torquay United at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday.

Torquay, meanwhile, are aiming for another positive result on the road to help them recover from their poor start to the season.

After being held to a goalless draw in their last fixture versus Southend, Wrexham will be hoping to get back to winning ways when they welcome Torquay to Wales this weekend.

Fortunately for the Dragons, top-of-the-table Chesterfield also dropped points in the last round of fixtures, which kept Wrexham just one point behind the early leaders at the top of the National League standings.

Wrexham will be hoping Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer can continue their fine goalscoring form in this game, as they have scored seven and six goals respectively so far this season.

The stars of the Disney Plus show 'Welcome to Wrexham' have certainly been putting on a show at home this season, scoring the most goals in front of their own fans in the National League so far with 14 from just four games.

Torquay have found much of their success this season on their travels, although a free-scoring Wrexham side will provide a sterner test than most.

The Gulls have picked up seven of their eight points so far away from home and are unbeaten in their last two away fixtures, which included a win against Southend, who held Wrexham in their previous fixture.

New signing Will Goodwin has recently found his form in front of goal, scoring in two of the last three games, and Torquay will naturally be hoping he continues this upward trajectory.

Their attack will need to be firing if they are to pick up anything against Wrexham and their defence will also need to produce performances like they are doing away from home so far, where they have only conceded four goals in five games.

Team News

For the majority of the season, Wrexham have played in a 4-4-2, which is the system they are expected to stay in for this game, as it has brought them a lot of success.

Wrexham have remained unchanged for the last two fixtures, so it is expected that their lineup will stay the same.

The luxury afforded to Wrexham is that when they have dominated games, they have been able to sub off leading goalscorers Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer and give them a rest, so they have been nicely managed for fixtures ahead.

Torquay also have played a 4-4-2 this season and will most likely match them up.

It will be interesting to see who leads the line for Torquay; Will Goodwin is almost certain to start in one of the striker positions but the other seems very much up for grabs.

The centre-back pairing is also something which has been interchangeable in the last few games, and the pairing chosen this weekend could be crucial to the outcome of this game.

Wrexham possible starting lineup:
Howard; Cleworth, Young, Hayden, Forde; Davies, Jones, Mendy, Tozer; Mullin, Palmer

Torquay United possible starting lineup:
Lovett; Hanson, Evans, Omar, Crowe; Wyatt, Andrews, McGavin, Marshall; Goodwin, Jarvis

We say: Wrexham 3-1 Torquay United

With the form that Wrexham are in, it is hard to see anything other than a comfortable win for them at home.

Torquay have definitely been better on the road but the goalscoring duo of Mullins and Palmer may prove to be slightly too much to handle for them, although it wouldn't be surprising if Goodwin also found the back of the net for Torquay.
