James Hayter penalty sinks former club Doncaster Rovers

Yeovil Town's James Hayter is on target from the spot as the Glovers defeat Doncaster Rovers 1-0 in the Championship.

A second-half penalty from James Hayter proved enough to claim maximum points for battling Yeovil Town in their Championship meeting with Doncaster Rovers.

There were chances for both sides in the opening stages, with Ishmael Miller shooting wide for the hosts and Jordan Bowery forcing Marek Stech into a save at the other end moments later.

Yeovil were the more creative in front of goal in the first half, with Duane Holmes firing over from outside the box in the 18th minute and Byron Webster's header requiring a save from Sam Johnstone 10 minutes later.

Doncaster's best opportunity in the first half fell to Chris Brown 10 minutes before the break, but he headed Mark Duffy's corner wide unmarked and the deadlock remained intact at the interval.

Gary Johnson's side edged their noses in front from the penalty spot just before the hour mark after James Husband had brought down Holmes in the box, allowing ex-Doncaster man Hayter to do the damage from 12 yards.

The visitors almost bagged an equaliser in the 69th minute when Paul Keegan's close-range header was saved by Stech following creative play by David Cotterill, but the home side clung on for a deserved win.
