Zenit St Petersburg reportedly join the race for Leandro Damiao and will register a £21.5m bid for the Internacional forward this week.

Zenit St Petersburg are the new frontrunners to sign reported Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton target Leandro Damiao.

The Brazilian international forward has long been linked with a move to Spurs, but when their interest in him cooled earlier this summer, Serie A side Napoli emerged as favourites to sign him.

However, The Express claims that a Zenit representative has flown to Porto Alegre this week to present Leandro's club Internacional with a £21.5m offer.

They hope to persuade the 24-year-old, who has been capped 16 times by his country, to opt for a move to Russia by doubling the salary that Napoli have offered.

The Italian side are desperate to sign Leandro as a replacement for Edinson Cavani, who recently left for Paris Saint-Germain in a £50m deal.
