Nikita Mazepin is optimistic that the period when Russian athletes like himself face penalties due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict will soon end.

After being dismissed by Haas with the onset of the hostilities in early 2022, the 25-year-old has been actively engaged in legal battles to simply gain permission to enter Europe.

Mazepin has achieved sufficient judicial successes recently to make his return to European lands, conducting tests this week in a GT3 Ferrari at Hungary's Balaton Park circuit.

"I am glad the European Union has recognised that athletes like me, who have no connection to politics, should not be subject to sanctions," he expressed to Tass news agency.

"I hope that all athletes who are not allowed to compete in international competitions today due to geopolitical reasons will be able to take their rightful place in the sports community again," Mazepin remarked.
