McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh says that his cars will undergo an upgrade in time for the German Grand Prix.

McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh has insisted that his side are planning to upgrade their cars in time for the German Grand Prix.

Team drivers Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button have been in disappointing form and currently trail Fernando Alonso in the drivers' championship standings by 37 and 79 points respectively.

Whitmarsh has vowed that the car will be improved by the time the British duo take to the track in Hockenheim, but has warned people not expect a massive change in fortunes.

"Anyone who makes predictions this season is very rash," said Whitmarsh. "Everyone knows this team is strong and committed to winning, and the drivers and team will be giving it their all. We'll see what we can do when we get to Germany.

"It's a decent upgrade, although I'm sure no-one is going to stand still and wait for us. You have to do a good job.

"We've been flat out as we always are. We're trying to pull [the upgrades] through as quick as we can."

The German Grand Prix gets takes place on July 22.
