McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh insists that Jenson Button was unlucky to only qualify in 11th place for the Korean Grand Prix.

McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh has insisted that Jenson Button has "lots of choices" to consider before deciding on his strategy for the Korean Grand Prix.

Button could only qualify in 11th position after a yellow flag halted his progress in qualifying two, but despite Whitmarsh acknowledging that Button was unlucky, he drew on the positives ahead of Sunday's race.

Whitmarsh told BBC Sport: "Jenson was unlucky. He was up until the yellow flags came out but that is the pressure of qualifying.

"It's disappointing he has got new option and new prime tyres left so he has got lots of choices.

"He did a fantastic long run yesterday. We'll try something different and see where we can get him."

Button is currently in sixth place in the Formula 1 drivers' standings.
