McLaren sporting director Sam Michael to leave at the end of the season

McLaren sporting director Sam Michael will reportedly step down as sporting director at the end of the season.

McLaren sporting director Sam Michael will reportedly leave his role with the Formula 1 team at the close of the season.

The 43-year-old is believed to have told chairman Ron Dennis back in March that he wanted to return to his native Australia with his family.

According to BBC Sport, a spokesman for the team has confirmed Michael's impending departure, but has rejected rumours that technical director Tim Goss and chief operating officer Jonathan Neale are due to be axed.

Michael joined McLaren in 2012 after resigning as Williams technical director in the previous year.
