Valtteri Bottas, Lewis Hamilton finish strongly at Abu Dhabi season close

Mercedes drivers Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton secured a one-two finish in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix as the team finished the season strongly in the final race of the year.

Bottas, who had pipped his teammate to pole position in qualifying on Saturday, maintained his lead throughout the race while Hamilton secured second from the start.

Haas driver Kevin Magnussen had arguably the worst start to the race as he span out, before Daniel Ricciardo was forced to retire after 20 laps when his Red Bull motor suffered a hydraulics problem.

Renault driver Carlos Sainz followed suit 11 laps later after leaving the pit lane with a loose front tyre - the Spaniard avoided a crash and sped back out onto the track before being told to stop the car.

Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel finished third in the United Arab Emirates, which ensured his second-placed finish in the championship standings despite Bottas's race win.

Brazilian Felipe Massa ended his Formula 1 career with a 10th-place finish, but Williams teammate Lance Stroll could not add to their tally in this race after finishing 18th.
