Lewis Hamilton has admitted that there were tears in his eyes during the final lap of his triumph at the British Grand Prix.
The Mercedes driver kept himself ahead of teammate Nico Rosberg at the top of the standings as he prevailed at a rain-affected Silverstone on Sunday.
Rosberg finished the race in second place, while Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari completed the podium.
"I am so elated, you cannot imagine," Hamilton told reporters. "I teared up on the last lap hoping I could do it for all the guys. I could see all the fans on every lap in the corner of my eye and they spurred me on.
"My clutch was good, we had quite poor grip at the start, the same for Nico but it made the race more exciting. I just kept pushing. For the first time in my career I made the perfect choice tyre-wise."
The Formula 1 season continues later this month with the Hungarian Grand Prix.
