Lewis Hamilton has acknowledged that he only has himself to blame for his Italian Grand Prix Q2 exit.
The Mercedes driver admitted the he "drove like an idiot" after coming in 12th on the grid with a poor time in the second qualifying segment.
"It was generally a really poor qualifying session," AutoSport quotes Hamilton as saying. "I didn't put one single lap together in Q2.
"I just drove like an idiot. That is the worst I have driven for a long, long time. I am sorry for the team."
Force India driver Adrian Sutil is under investigation for blocking Hamilton's final lap at the Parabolica, but the 28-year-old does not believe that the impediment was decisive.
"It doesn't matter anyway," he said of the incident. "I should have done it on the lap before anyway."
Sebastian Vettel, who finished in pole position, currently holds a 46-point lead at the top of the standings.
