There are small signs that Alpine is gradually moving towards ending its F1 crisis, as noted by Pierre Gasly, who believes the latest steps are "in the right direction."
The Renault-backed Formula 1 squad is currently struggling, battling not only persistent takeover speculation but also the potential departure of both Gasly and his compatriot Esteban Ocon after the 2024 season.
A key part of their problem has been an engine lacking in power and a chassis that is significantly overweight. However, while Williams continues to face difficulties in producing a viable third monocoque, Alpine already anticipating the introduction of a newer, lighter model.
Further updates to the vehicle, including a redesigned floor originally scheduled for the Miami Grand Prix, were expedited and introduced in Shanghai instead.
This weekend, Ocon will pilot the sole model equipped with the latest upgrades.
"From what we've seen so far, the improvements to Esteban's car seem to be a step in the right direction," Gasly observed during an interview with Canal Plus in China, adding, "so I'm looking forward to Miami where we can both benefit from these developments."
Regarding his future and potential opportunities, like the soon-to-be-available Mercedes seat vacated by Lewis Hamilton, and given his management by Toto Wolff, teammate Ocon remained non-committal when probed in Shanghai, simply stating, "We'll see. I don't know."
