Red Bull can think about beating Ferrari in Monaco next weekend.
That is the view of Pierre Gasly, after Red Bull moved ahead of the Maranello team in terms of performance in Barcelona.
Frenchman Gasly says he is slowly upping his game in the 2019 car, having struggled since moving up from Toro Rosso.
"I have changed my style of driving a little, and the new parts on the car have also helped," he said.
It means he is hoping to join his teammate Max Verstappen in targeting to beat the red cars in Monaco.
"The Ferrari is very fast on the straight and they have the best engine, but in the corners we now look more competitive than them," said Gasly.
"I think we have a chance to be ahead of Ferrari."
However, he thinks Mercedes is out of reach for Red Bull.
"If you look at their pace objectively, they made a huge step forward," said Gasly. "I think they are much faster than us and Ferrari."
Team official Dr Helmut Marko agrees, telling Salzburger Nachrichten newspaper: "It was alarming how much faster Mercedes were in the slow corners, and Monte Carlo is almost entirely slow corners."
He is also pessimistic that Red Bull will get any support from the authorities to close the gap to Mercedes.
"When we were not nearly as dominant as them, there were two or three changes in the regulations each year. But nobody seems interested in that at the moment," said Marko.
