FIA to retire Jules Bianchi's car number 17

The FIA decides to retire car number 17, the one chosen by Jules Bianchi, from future use in F1 as a mark of respect to the late Marussia driver.

The FIA has revealed that car number 17 will be retired in honour of the late Jules Bianchi.

Each driver is allowed to personally select their car number, but Bianchi's 17 will no longer be available for selection from next season.

Formula 1's governing body took the decision as a mark of respect to the French driver, who passed away on the weekend as a result of severe head injuries sustained at last year's Japanese Grand Prix.

Bianchi, who became a Marussia driver in 2013, will be laid to rest in his hometown of Nice on Tuesday.
