Formula 1 might extend the use of 'gravel strips' to address the persistent track limits problem at additional circuits, the FIA has indicated.
The previous year's Austrian Grand Prix was marred by an excessive number of track limits breaches - exceeding 1000 - as drivers repeatedly crossed the outer white lines.
At last weekend's event at the Red Bull Ring, the introduction of gravel strips effectively resolved this issue.
Niels Wittich, the FIA's F1 race director, mentioned that a similar approach was already tested earlier this year in Shanghai.
"The hope now is that it can be applied wherever necessary," he stated.
"Gravel is not expensive and it is an easy fix for most circuits," Wittich added, noting that the solution can be easily removed for other racing categories like MotoGP.
However, he mentioned that this measure isn't required at every circuit on the schedule.
"At Zandvoort, for example, it's all natural track limits," Wittich said. "But there are other circuits, such as Austin, where you have some track limit areas where we would like to implement this or something similar, creating a natural deterrent. We look at every circuit to see where improvements can be made," he added. "It's a constant process."
