Live Commentary: The Masters: Day two - as it happened

Good evening! Welcome to Sports Mole for the second round of the Masters.

We have a new leader! Dustin Johnson is going great guns on his second round and is two-under through 13, which puts him on seven-under for the tournament. Meanwhile, Marc Leishman has dropped a shot at the fourth and is now at five-under.

Fred Couples is even par through 13 and remains on four-under. He has been joined on four-under for the tournament by Jim Furyk (one-under through six) and Charl Schwartzel (three-under through three).

Meanwhile, Sergio Garcia has not had the best of starts to his second round. That's putting it mildly. He is four-over-par through 14 for today and is now on two-under for the tournament. I hate to say it, but that's typical from the Spaniard, who is one of the most talented and likeable players on tour. He is often found wanting mentally, though.

The weather has provided a sterner test for today's early starters. Plenty of rain and a stiff wind has passed through Augusta, but the afternoon starters look like they'll be getting the best of the conditions. The sun is beginning to break through the clouds and the course is drying out, the wind becoming a bit more benign, which could be bad news for the field with Tiger Woods just starting his round.

One of the stories of yesterday was 14-year-old Guan Tianlang, who shot a one-over-par round of 73. Well, he finished two-over today and is well in with a shout of making the weekend. What a story that could be.

BOGEY! Dustin Johnson bogeys the par-four 14th and drops back to six-under. He leads by one now. Guan has just dropped a shot at the 17th as well, so he's right on the projected four-over cut mark.

PAR! Lee Westwood has shot six straight pars to open his second round and he's on two under. Rickie Fowler has started with a par at the first as well. He played superbly yesterday with six birdies, but a a couple of dropped shots cost him what could easily have been the honour of leading overnight.

PAR! McIlroy, who was two-over until an eagle at the eighth got him even, has shot his fourth straight par at the 12th hole.

Uh oh, trouble for Dustin Johnson at the 15th. After laying up, he has just dumped a wedge into the water. And everybody on four-over tried to contain their joy. I'm not sure how well they concealed it, though.

Garcia has just hit a good approach to the 16th to leave himself with a chance of birdie. If he can make it, get to three-under and stay there or better until the end of his round, then that could be a major boost to his confidence. He has bled shots for most of his round.

Bubba Watson has just punched a delightful pitch into the third tee to leave himself with a very good chance of a birdie. The defending champion is currently at two-over, and I think most people want him to make the cut. I think most wouldn't mind him retaining the jacket, but that looks extremely unlikely.

DOUBLE BOGEY! Well, after opening up a two-shot lead Dustin Johnson has crumbled slightly. The wedge he dropped into the drink has cost him two more shots and he is now on four-under.

That now means that five players are tying the lead at four-under. They are Johnson, Couples, Furyk, Leishman, Fowler.

Guan Tianlang has finished and he is one four-over for the tournament. He faces an anxious wait to see if he has made to cut for the weekend. As it stands, he's in.

BIRDIE! Luke Donald picks up a shot at the second hole and he moves on to two-under par.

BIRDIE! We have a new leader and it's Jim Furyk! He has birdied the eighth and moves onto five-under.

PENALTY! Guan Tianlang was penalised for slow play and docked one shot at the 17th. If he misses the cut then that could be a bit of a talking point.

BIRDIE! Meanwhile, Leishman makes birdie and quickly joins Furyk back at the top of the leaderboard on five-under.

BIRDIE! McIlroy has made consecutive birdies at 13 and 14 and he is now at two-under. He's on the charge, it seems. How can he finish?

There are the 14 (FOURTEEN) players on two-under par. We're set for an exciting weekend, I believe.

BIRDIE! Rose gets to four-under with a birdie at the eighth.

"It is a shame to single out one single player," Colin Montgomerie tells Sky Sports News, speaking about the penalty for Guan Tianlang. It's taken an hour and 20 minutes for Donald and Woods to complete three holes, so you have to think that there will be more penalties on the way.

Sergio Garcia finishes on four-over par for his round. That leaves him on two-under, so it's not complete disaster for the Spaniard, but he will no doubt be bitterly disappointed with his performance today.

PAR! Dustin Johnson misses a tiddler for a birdie but is able to tidy up for a par. That leaves him on three-under through 17. A bit of a collapse from leading at seven-under.

PAR! McIlroy (-2) leaves his birdie putt at 15 to the left of the hole but knocks the ball into the cup for par.

BIRDIE! Leishman (-6) moves back into the lead on his own with a birdie at the eighth.

Nice shot from Schwartzel, who places his approach to the eighth to within around 10 feet from the cup. Tiger came up short of the green on the par-three fourth and then went long with his putt. He now has a tricky one to make par.

Leishman goes far beyond the green with his approach to the ninth. He's got work to save par there.

BIRDIE! Couples finds the middle of the cup for a birdie at the last hole and gets to five-under par. Terrific performance, and he puts himself right in contention for the weekend.

PAR! Tiger makes his par putt and remains on two-under. Steady start from the world number one. The holes are cut in difficult positions on the front nine, and most players have been picking up their shots on the back nine today. Although the par-five eighth is proving to be profitable.

DOUBLE BOGEY! Dustin Johnson finishes with two dropped shots at the last. It's been quite a bleed from the American, who led at seven-under par just six holes earlier.

Fowler's approach to the fourth runs off the green. His chip will have to travel downhill, so it could be tricky.

Justin Rose plays a lovely shot into the 10th pin, but he has a tricky putt with a big break in it. If he makes it, he gets to five-under par.

BOGEY! McIlroy (-1) pushes his putt for par at the 17th wide and he drops one back. That'll be a bit of a sickener for the Northern Irishman. Still, a birdie at the last will end on a good note.

Woods finds the green at the fifth but if he makes birdie I'll eat my hat. The undulating greens at Augusta are one of the most characteristic aspects of this course, and there are a few slopes on that one.

Donald doesn't fare too much better, although he goes to the left while Tiger went right.

PAR! Rose's birdie putt never looked like it had a chance and he misses the opportunity to get to five-under par.

Fowler's chip at the fourth was a beauty and he looks like he'll make par. Furyk finds the green at 11, while Westwood goes to the right and has a tricky pitch to get close to the pin for a birdie.

Ben Crenshaw has been speaking about the penalty for Guan Tianlang. BBC Sport quotes him as saying: "This is not going to end pretty. I'm sick for him. I feel terrible. He is 14 years old. I'm so sorry this has happened."

If someone reaches seven-under today, then that will spell the end for the 14-year-old Chinese player.

BIRDIE! Woods picks up his first shot of the day and he moves on to three-under.

Guan Tianlang has been speaking to Sky Sports News: "We got some rain today and the wind blows hard. I made the decision to switch clubs and unfortunately it was my second bad time. I accept the decision. We have to wait to see what goes on."

Neither Donald nor Woods can get close to the pin at the par-three sixth.

PAR! Leishman leaves his birdie putt at the 10th inches from the cup. He stays at six-under but still leads by one shot.

Schwartzel gives himself a chance for birdie to get the three-under at the 10th with a nice iron into the green.

Furyk got lucky with his tee shot into the 12th. Although he was off the green, he didn't go into the azaleas and has a chip into the pin. However, it wasn't a good attempt and he will struggle to make par.

Statement from the Masters officials: "Tianlang Guan was assessed a one-shot penalty for violation of Rule 6-7 of the Rules of Golf and the Tournament's Pace of Play Policy. His group, which included Ben Crenshaw and Matteo Manassero, was deemed out of position on No.10. Guan began being timed on Hole 12 and received his first warning on Hole 13 after his second shot. In keeping with the applicable rules, he was penalized following his 2nd shot on the 17th hole when he again exceeded the 40 second time limit by a considerable margin."

BOGEY! Furyk does indeed drop a shot at the 12th and he is back on four-under par. Leishman now leads by two strokes.

BOGEY! Oof, that's got to hurt for Rose, who three putts at 11 to drop back to three-under. And after missing his chance for birdie at 10 as well.

BOGEY! Fowler slips to two-under par with another bogey at five. He's two-over for his round and struggling early on.

BIRDIE! McIlroy (-2) finishes with a birdie at the last. He found the bottom of the cup from 10 feet and signs for a two-under round of 70.

A fantastic tee shots from Westwood at the par-five 13th leaves him with a decent shot into the green.

Tiger's shot into the par-four seventh green just clings onto the green. It'll be tough to make birdie, but can he at least make par?

I wouldn't be surprised if many expected Leishman to have slipped down the leaderboard even by now. He is even for the day and is going steady.

BOGEY! Oh dear, Rose (-2) continues to bleed with his second consecutive bogey at 12.

Wow, Westwood's second shot into the par-five 13th hits a sprinkler head and bounces well wide of the green. But, it is a slice of fortune, as the ball was surely heading for Ray's Creek. He can still make a birdie with a decent pitch into the pin.

Leishman finds the bunker at 12. He'll need a good shot to leave himself with a chance of par. Or a miraculous one which would see him make birdie.

BIRDIE! Uh oh, Tiger's on the charge. He picks up another shot at the eigth and he has a steely look in his eyes. It's an ominous sign for the rest of the field.

BIRDIE! KJ Choi (-2) picks up a shot at the 10th, but his put would have gone way past the hole had it not got in the way! Meanwhile, Furyk (-5) also responds positively following his dropped shot at 12 with a birdie at 13.

PAR! Westwood (-2) could only make par at the 13th. Strange one really, as it could have been both better or worse, depending on your philosophical standpoint. But let's not get too deep, eh...

Wow! Woods plays an unreal approach to the eigth green and has a very real opportunity for a eagle.

I apologise, Woods has a chance for eagle at the eighth. That would see him tie the lead.

BIRDIE! 2011 runner-up Jason Day finds the cup to get to three-under par.

BIRDIE! His fellow Aussie John Senden sends a brilliant 12-foot putt into the cup and he also gets to three-under.

BIRDIE! Rose (-3) not only stops the rot, but starts to move back in the right direction with a birdie at the 13th.

Superb shot from Westwood into the 14th pin! He has a good chance of birdie, but it's putting where his weaknesses have lay in recent years. He can become the latest to get to three-under.

BIRDIE! Tiger left his eagle putt inches from the hole and tapped in for birdie to continue his charge. He's one off the lead at five-under now.

PAR! Donald couldn't quite manage birdie and he stays on two-under.

An excellent shot from Leishman at 13 leaves him with a chance of birdie. He controlled the wedge well with the right amount of spin to keep the ball pin-high.

BIRDIE! Westwood rolls in his putt and does become the latest player to reach three-under. Meanwhile, Jason Day is in trouble at the eighth after finding the bunker.

Leishman can't quite manage birdie at 13, as his arched putt drifts just to the right of the cup.

Westwood leaves his approach to the 14th out to the right and he might need a drop.

BIRDIE! Rickie Fowler holes a nice putt at the eighth to get himself back to three under.

PAR! Day scrambles well to make his par at the eigth and stays on three-under.

IN THE DRINK! Furyk (-5) is in the water at 15 and it looks like he'll be dropping another shot.

Furyk gets a drop and moves his ball further back, but overshoots the approach and is off the green. This hole has been a bit of a disaster for the American.

BIRDIE! Senden makes it consecutive birdies at the 11th to move to four-under par. He's going well and could be challenging the top of the board by the end of play today.

Westwood (-3) lags a good putt next to the hole at the 15th and it looks like he'll be tidying up for par.

DOUBLE BOGEY! Furyk hits a decent putt from the fringe but it's not enough to stop him from dropping two shots. He slips to three-under. He joins Westwood, who was able to make his par.

Apologies if everything went bold then. A manual refresh will do the trick.

Senden went into the bunker at the 12th, but a great shot from the sand has given him an excellent chance of saving par.

BOGEY! Leishman bogeys the 14th and that means Woods now has a share of the lead, along with Fred Couples, who is in the clubhouse on five-under.

Delightful pitch shot by KJ Choi at 13! That leaves him with a gimme for birdie and a chance to move four-under par.

Rose (-3) taps his birdie putt at the 15th down the hilly green and it slides to the right as it gathers pace. He has five feet left for par.

PAR! Westwood keeps himself on three-under with par at the 16th. Furyk also makes par, but both men made good putts from difficult positions.

BIRDIE! Choi does makes his birdie and he joins Cabrera and Senden on four-under par.

PAR! Tiger left his birdie putt at the 10th around five feet short of the cup, but tidies up for par and remains on five-under.

At the other end of the leaderboard, Bubba Watson is struggling to make the cut. He is on four-over, but has just dumped his approach to the 11th into the water. Not good news for the defending champion.

Hmm, news coming through that Westwood actually made a bogey five at the fifth earlier today, so that means he is actually on two-under par.

Senden took a leaf out of Choi's book and laid up at 13 before clipping a lovely wedge to within feet of the pin. He could be grabbing a share of the lead imminently.

BIRDIE! Snedeker picks up a shot at the 16th to join the six players already on three-under par.

Luke Donald's (-1) approach to the 11th is sublime, and leaves him with around five foot for a birdie.

BIRDIE! Jason Day gets to four-under with a birdie at the 10th.

BOGEY! Bad news for Choi though, as he three-putts the 14th green to drop back to three-under.

Donald's birdie putt at 11 doesn't offer any break and drifts past the hole. Unfortunate, as he has struggled to get going today. He remains on one-under, even par for the day.

BIRDIE! Schwartzel birdies the par-five 14th to move onto three-under. It's getting crowded at the top. It's very tight, with just three shots separating a whole host of players.

THE CUT LINE: The cut is projected at five-over at the moment. Currently below that mark are names such as Louis Oosthuizen, Ian Poulter, Stewart Cink (all +6) and Nicolas Colsaerts (+7). Padraig Harrington is 10-over through 10 holes and it doesn't look like he'll be sticking around. Guan Tianlang (+4) is still inside the line.

Graeme McDowell is also four-over and is currently on the 15th. Bubba Watson (+5) is on the line at the moment.

Donald and Woods both find the bunker at 12. It's been a busy stretch of sand, that has.

PAR! Saving par from the hazard can be as much of an ingredient to winning the Masters as making birdies, and Woods does it for the second time today with a testing five-footer that threatened to break to the left. Nice putt.

BIRDIE! Westwood makes birdie at the last to get the three-under (definitely, this time). That's put him in a great position heading into 'moving day' tomorrow.

BIRDIE! And Furyk (-4) makes it a pair of birdies for the group on 18. That'll give him a boost after a round that took a few blows. Namely a bogey and a double early on the back nine.

Rose's (-2) approach the the 18th goes past the hole, but rolls around the slope and filters back down, eventually finishing under five feet for a birdie to finish.

Superb tee shot from Fowler (-2) at the par-three 12th leaves him with a makeable birdie putt.

BIRDIES! A couple of late birdies has Snedeker finishing on four-under, while Justin Rose taps in for his birdie to finish on three-under. They're both safely in the clubhouse now and are positioned well for the weekend.

Sky Sports News offering a quote from Fred Couples, who is not getting overly excited about his chances over the weekend. Characteristically, the former champion is staying cool: "I did tee off on Thursday with the idea of playing well, and now it's Friday afternoon late. I'm surprised, but I'm not like, you know, going to freak out over it."

BIRDIE! Great hole for Rickie Fowler as he becomes a rare birdie-er at the 12th. That puts him back on three-under with six holes left to play. It's a similar story to his round yesterday, which was marred by two double bogeys. He's been up and down today, but what can he do before the end of play?

PAR! Senden's birdie putt at the 15th trickles agonisingly wide of the cup! So unlucky, but he taps in for par to remain on four-under.

BOGEY! Schwartzel taps in for a bogey five at the 17th and he goes to the last hole on two-under par.

PAR! Tiger went after his putt at 14 as if it was creeping in, but it just missed to the left and he remains tied for the lead on five-under.

Justin Rose speaking on Sky Sports News: "You need a lot of imagination. It's fun, if you can try and keep it fun. It's hard when it's not going your way. On a day like today when the wind is blowing, it's important to get yourself in some nice spots out there."


When told that Tiger Woods said, of all Sean Foley's pupils, that he thinks Rose has the best swing, the Englishman replied: "Yeah, I know," with a jokey nature.

Fowler's approach to the 13th hits something in the trees and cannons out onto the fairway. It looks to be heading into Ray's Creek but somehow it stays on the bottom of the bank. A slice of fortune.

PAR! Joint leader Marc Leishman finishes with par to end his second round on one-over par, but five-under for the championship. Not a bad day for the Australian, considering that he's never led a Major championship before.

Schwartzel nearly holes his second shot at the last hole, which would have been an eagle. He has a tiddler for birdie now to get back up to three-under. Senden has made a bit of a mess of the 16th hole and looks like he'll be dropping a shot.

BIRDIE! Day makes a birdie at 13 and he now moves into a share of the lead with Couples, Leishman and Woods.

BOGEY! Senden did drop that shot at the 16th and falls back to three-under as his compatriot Day moves ahead. All of a sudden, that's a two-shot swing.

PAR! Oh no, Schwartzel (-2) couldn't make his birdie putt at the last and he finishes on a sour note. He dropped a shot at the 17th as well, so not the best way to end.

PAR! Not only has Tiger played some great golf on the front nine, he has been scrambling well on the last couple of holes and he saves yet another par. I've said it before, and I might sound like a broken record, but this is fast becoming one of the best Masters weekends I can remember. The leaderboard is so bunched at the top, and very tight. It's been a while since Tiger has been at the top, but it still looks so familiar, doesn't it? And with McIlroy still in contention, we could be in for the dream Sunday everybody wants. Here's hoping.

There are 20 players within three shots of the lead. Case in point.

Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods being paired in the final round of the Masters is akin to an El Clasico Champions League final or Roger Federer vs. Rafael Nadal in the Wimbledon final. Surely, even those who aren't particularly fans of golf would tune in for that one. But it's all pie in the sky at the moment. I'm dreaming.

Right, back to the action, and Rickie Fowler (-3) is struggling to make par at the 14.

Day nearly finds the bottom of the cup at the 14th, which would have seen him take the outright lead. He has inches left for par, though.

BOGEY! A second bogey in a row sees Senden drop further back, spoiling what promised to be a great round after back-to-back birdies at 10 and 11.

PAR! Great save from Fowler keeps him on three-under! That was a tricky downhiller, but he judged it perfectly.

What a delightful shot by KJ Choi (-3) at the last, which looks likely to see him saving par. He had to chip out from the bunker and feed it around a slope on the green, but finished inches from the hole.

IN THE WATER! Oh dear! So unlucky for Tiger! His approach to the 15th pitches right next to the hole, spins, hits the pin and cannons into the water! He'll likely drop a shot from there, but he's taken it well. Not the usual histrionics we've seen over the last few years.

What a shot from Tiger! He wasn't deterred by that slice of misfortune, and pitches a lovely wedge to within five feet of the cup. It looks like he'll make a six from there, and drop back to four-under. But that's more like the Tiger who dominated the sport for so long - I have goosebumps!

PAR! KJ Choi does save par at 18 to finish on three-under.

PAR! Donald holes his par putt at 15 to stay on one-under. He hasn't played great today, but it's not beyond him to challenge over the weekend - he's only four shots off the lead at the moment.

BOGEY! A good bogey, if ever there can be one for Woods at 15. He was unlucky to bounce off the pin and into the water, but his response was top notch.

There are five players in the clubhouse on two-under. They are Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano, Bernhard Langer, Sergio Garcia, Rory McIlroy, and Charl Schwartzel. John Senden is also on two-under but has the 18th still to negotiate.

PAR! Senden finishes with par to end the day on two-under, and joins the others in the clubhouse.

THE CUT LINE: Good news for Bubba Watson (+3 through 16), as he looks likely to be sticking around for the weekend. However, we'll be saying goodbye to Louis Oosthuizen, Ian Poulter (+6) and Nicolas Colsaerts (+7).

McDowell (+5) faces an anxious wait as he lies on the projected cut line, while Guan Tianlang (+4) is also sneaking in as things stand. Francesco Molinari (+11) and Hunter Mahan (+14) are also on their way home.

IN THE WATER! Rickie Fowler hits the water with his tee shot at 16!

Woods follows a great tee shot at the 17th with a massive sand wedge to find the green. Big follow through to get it above the trees and plonk it on the dancefloor.

BIRDIE! Jason Day moves into the outright lead on six-under with a birdie at the 16th!

TRIPLE BOGEY! Oh dear, oh dear! What a disastrous hole for Fowler. He drops back to even par with a triple on 16. He found the water and then three-putted. Round spoiler.

Of course, that birdie for Day will have the players at five-over feeling restless as he approaches the final two holes. They're now in big danger of missing the weekend. If the Aussie makes another birdie then young Guan Tianlang could have his heart broken with the very last swing of the club on day two. That really would be sickening for him, having looked like he was sneaking in since finishing his round earlier today.

I say "could" have his heart broken, if Day makes it he WILL have his heart broken.

PAR! Tiger sinks the ball for par at 17 and he head to the last on four-under.

BOGEY! Poulter finishes with a bogey to land on seven-over, although with Day on six-under he was likely to miss the cut anyway.

Great approach into the 17th from Day and everyone on four-over tenses up! The Aussie has a decent chance of birdie to move onto seven-under.

BOGEY! One of those on the four-over mark is now Bubba Watson after he finishes with a bogey five. Tense finish here on the second day...

Jason Day puts the ball down for his putt. This will have big consequences regarding the cut line if it goes it.

WIDE! It drifts just to the right of the hole! Four-over is still the projected cut. Day, however, remains in the lead all on his lonesome on six-under.

PAR! Rickie Fowler saves par well at the 17th to keep himself on level par. He'll be kicking himself about what happened on 16, but that's a decent response.

Donald chips to within inches of the cup at the last hole. He is actually better chipping than he is putting. Controversial?

Tiger's long birdie putt at the 18th goes past the hole and leaves him with a very tricky putt for par. He's been making these all day, but can he do it at the last? He's on four-under at the moment and would probably feel aggrieved to finish on three-under.

BOGEY! That's a dropped shot for Woods at the last. Unfortunate, as he scrambled well after making a good start. He was tied for the lead on five-under at one point, but he still lurks on three-under heading into the weekend. He's many peoples' pick for the green jacket. And after a battling round, it's easy to see why.

PAR! Donald finishes with par to end on one-under. Still in contention for the weekend.

Right, last group now on the 18th. Fowler (E) looking to get moving back in the right direction, and Day (-6) looking to put another shot between him, Fred Couple and Marc Leishman (-5).

Fowler hits his second into the greenside bunker. Meanwhile, Day is in Sandy Lyle's bunker and about to play his second into the green.

His approach pitches on the green, but the ball can't get over the front shelf and slopes back off the green. Those on four-over are nearly there. Nearly there.

Unfortunately for those on five-over, it looks like they're done for this year's Masters.

Lovely shot from Fowler from the bunker. Plenty of imagination, as he uses the undulating green to his advantage by playing it up onto a slope, which takes the pace off his ball, before having it feed back towards the hole.
