Viktor Hovland becomes the latest winner of the Fedex Cup after completing a dominant display at East Lake with a final-round 63 in the Tour Championship.

Viktor Hovland has recorded a final-round 63 to win the Tour Championship and Fedex Cup, prevailing by five shots at East Lake.

The Norwegian produced one of the rounds of his life - a feat acknowledged by Hovland himself - when winning the BMW Championship a week earlier.

That performance catapulted the 25-year-old into a position to challenge for the $18m (£14.3m) first prize and he produced a startling display over the four days to see off the challenge of Xander Schauffele.

Having hit rounds of 64 and 66 on Friday and Saturday respectively, Hovland posted a 63 on Sunday, a faultness round which featured seven birdies and no bogeys.

Although nearest challenger Schauffele reached the clubhouse in 62, the American could get nowhere near the leader, whose back-to-back victories have taken him to world number four.

Speaking after his success, Hovland said: "It's pretty surreal to be standing here right now. The gameplan before starting was middle of the green, make a lot of pars and make Xander get after it, which he did early so I had to change my gameplan a little bit."

US Open champion Wyndham Clark claimed third place, albeit 11 shots adrift of Hovland, while Rory McIlroy was a spirited fourth despite carrying an issue with his back.

World number one Scottie Scheffler had to settle for sixth position alongside Collin Morikawa and Tommy Fleetwood, that trio being edged out for a top five by Patrick Cantlay.
