Jim Furyk has confirmed that he will not compete at this week's Tour Championship due to a bone contusion in his wrist.
The world number seven was only able to complete six holes at the BMW Championship before the injury forced him off the course, and he revealed after his withdrawal that the injury was sustained earlier in the FedEx Cup playoffs.
Furyk has made the decision in the hope that he will be fit enough to represent the US team at the Presidents Cup next month.
"While I am disappointed to miss this week's event in Atlanta, I am now placing all my efforts on being healthy and ready to play in the Presidents Cup," the 45-year-old, who is ranked 16th among the 30 players who did enough to qualify for the final event of the playoffs, announced in a statement.
Furyk will collect $132,000 (£85,903) for finishing last out of the players who reached the season-ending event.
