David Howell backs Rory McIlroy to become best British golfer of all time

David Howell believes that fellow pro Rory McIlroy is destined to become the greatest British golfer of all time after the Northern Irishman stormed to success in the British Open at the weekend.

McIlroy, 25, now only needs to lift The Masters to complete a career Grand Slam.

"Rory is an amazing talent and he's really got something special about him," Howell told the Swindon Advertiser.

"There have been some amazing players from Britain over the years, Faldo being the best of them so far, but Rory's already halfway to Nick's total and I would say there's a fair chance he will beat that."

The 79th edition of The Masters is due to be held at Augusta National Golf Club in April 2015.
