World number one Rory McIlroy has withdrawn from the Honda Classic in Florida midway through the second round.
The Northern Irishman walked off the course at seven-over par through eight holes following yesterday's disappointing round, which left him six shots off the pace.
While there has been no official word as to why the 23-year-old walked off following his first eight holes, it is believed that McIlroy, who has struggled since switching clubs following his big-money sponsorship with Nike, was poised to shoot 42 for his first nine.
His shot, which entered the water on 18, prompted McIlroy to leave the course without finishing the hole and immediately drive off in his car claiming that he is 'not in the right place mentally', according to Sky Sports News.
Meanwhile, Geoff Ogilvy and Doug LaBelle II are currently sharing the lead in Florida.
