Francesco Molinari sets a new course record on his way to a three-shot lead after day one of the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open.

Francesco Molinari has set a new course record to lead after the first day of the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open.

The Italian holed 10 birdies as a 10-under-par round of 62 gave him a three-shot lead at Castle Stuart.

Denmark's Soren Kjeldsen ended the day on seven-under with France's Raphael Jacquelin and Spain's Alejandro Canizares.

Elsewhere, world number one Luke Donald is five shots off the pace after two bogeys saw the Englishman card a round of 67.

There was further disappointment for Phil Mickelson after a 73 left the American one-over with Scotland's Paul Lawrie.
