Patrick Reed shot a one-over-par 71 but managed to retain a share of the lead on day three of the Wyndham Championship.
John Huh joined his American compatriot -10 for the tournament by carding a round of 70 as the leader changed on a number of occasions in North Carolina.
The leaderboard could have made for better reading for Reed had he not bogeyed the 18th hole of a difficult round.
Jordan Spieth held the outright advantage at one stage but he heads into the final round a shot behind the leaders after finding the water on the 15th hole.
It means that Reed is still in contention for his maiden PGA Tour title but the 23-year-old may also be challenged by Zach Johnson, who ended the day on -9.
