Lee Westwood has revealed that his mum made him apologise for swearing during his closing round at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.
After striking his tee shot off the 16th, the world number three could be heard exclaiming "oh, holy s**t".
The 38-year-old later apologised on Twitter, posting: "Sorry about swearing on the 16th tee. Came off like a rocket and thought it was going further! Wash my mouth out! Perils of live tv!"
Westwood, who finished tied for 12th in Doha, now says that it was his mum who told him to say sorry.
"My mum was the first person on the phone and she said 'you might want to apologise'," said the Englishman.
"I didn't think that down at four under par I would be on TV. It's amazing how sensitive these microphones are."
The former world number one will look to build on his solid start to the season at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic this week.
