Tiger Woods has admitted that he is lucky to have been selected for USA's Presidents Cup team.

The former world number one has played very little competitive golf in the past two years and has fallen to number 56 in the world rankings.

However, USA captain Fred Couples has opted to include Woods in his team to take on Australia later this month.

"I'm honoured to be picked," said. "Freddie had plenty of different candidates he could have chosen. I'm lucky to be on the team, we have a great team.

"I know I have got four starts guaranteed and I'm looking forward to getting out there and seeing who is going to be my partner and then obviously gelling and then hopefully winning our matches."

The 35-year-old was selected ahead of PGA Championship winner Keegan Bradley, a decision that was criticised by Geoff Ogilvy.

The Presidents Cup gets underway at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club on Thursday, November 17.
