World number one Scottie Scheffler faces a period on the sidelines after injuring his hand while preparing Christmas dinner.

Scottie Scheffler will miss the opening two weeks of 2025 after suffering a hand injury while preparing Christmas dinner.

The world number one is said to have cut his hand on broken glass earlier this week, an injury that has since required minor surgery.

Scheffler had been due to participate in The Sentry tournament next week, but has now been forced to withdraw from that event.

What has Scheffler's manager had to say?

In a statement, as quoted by the official PGA Tour website, manager Blake Smith said: "On Christmas Day while preparing dinner, Scottie sustained a puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from a broken glass.

"Small glass fragments remained in the palm which required surgery. He has been told that he should be back to 100% in three to four weeks.

"Unfortunately, he will have to withdraw from The Sentry. His next scheduled tournament is The American Express."

That aforementioned tournament is due to take place between January 16 and 19, it yet to be determined whether Scheffler will recover in time.

Scheffler had been hoping to start his year in style having collected eight trophies during 2024, including the Masters and Players Championship.

Although Scheffler will have a large amount of ranking points to defend across the next 12 months, he only played twice during the opening five weeks of 2023.

As well as finishing seventh at The Sentry, he was 11th at The American Express two weeks later, essentially meaning that his stranglehold of the world number one position will not be weakened in his absence.
