A one-over-par round of 73 from Rafa Cabrera-Bello failed to prevent him from leading the Qatar Masters heading into the final round.
The second-round leader recorded just two birdies during a disappointing display, and he is joined by England's Steve Webster, who carded a score of 70 on Friday.
The pair are one shot ahead of a group of three players, including world number 720 Adrien Saddier who produced a faultless round of 64 to move himself into contention.
Paul Lawrie is in a tie for sixth position, while Sergio Garcia and Branden Grace are a shot further adrift in 11th place.
However, it was a poor day for Henrik Stenson and Luke Donald, who both recorded rounds of 74 to fall down the standings.
