Jon Rahm earns first European Tour victory at Irish Open

Jon Rahm wins the Irish Open with a tournament-record score of 24-under-par at Portstewart Golf Club, finishing six shots ahead of Matthew Southgate and Richie Ramsay.

Jon Rahm has carded a final-round 65 at the Irish Open to win his first European Tour title, but only after a rules scare that almost cost him victory.

The Spaniard closed with five birdies and two eagles at Portstewart Golf Club for a tournament-record score of 24-under-par.

Sharing the lead with Daniel Im heading into Sunday's session, the 22-year-old found himself four clear on the 13th fairway when caught up in some controversy.

Rahm marked his ball on the sixth green which led to an enquiry, but no penalty was imposed and he went on to finish well in front of closest challengers Richie Ramsay and Matthew Southgate.

Ramsay and Southgate finished six shots further back, despite two bogeys in the final three holes for Rahm, whose only previous professional win came at the Farmers Insurance Open earlier this year.
