Luke Donald has insisted that the European team 'believed in our hearts' that they could retain the Ryder Cup following Sunday's dramatic victory over the USA.
Starting the day 10-6 down, Jose Maria Olazabal's men stormed the singles to stage one of the most remarkable comebacks in the competition's history.
"Obviously we had an uphill battle this morning, but we believed in our hearts we could do this," Donald told BBC Sport. "It was my job to lead us off. Fortunately I played great today and the other guys just followed.
"It's one of the highlights of my career. It's been down to a lot of people, but Jose has been a calming influence."
Donald won two and lost two of his matches over the course of the weekend.
