The world's number one golfer Rory McIlroy has backed the decision to appoint Paul McGinley as the captain of the European 2014 Ryder Cup team.
McIlroy was a known supporter of McGinley's cause and even raised concerns yesterday when it was reported that Colin Montgomerie had shown a late interest in the role.
"Common sense prevailed in the end.... Paul McGinley 2014 European Ryder Cup captain!!! Couldn't be happier for him... Roll on Gleneagles," McIlory tweeted shortly after the announcement.
McIlroy was among the contingent of European players that debated who will be their next skipper in Abu Dhabi over the last 24 hours.
