Jason Day holds six-shot lead at BMW Championship going into final round

Jason Day records a two-under round of 69 to take a six-shot lead into the final round of the BMW Championship in Illinois.

Jason Day holds a six-shot lead going into the final day of the BMW Championship as the Australian maintained his fine form in Illinois.

The 27-year-old held a five-stroke advantage after his round of 61 on day two, and he was able to extend his lead, despite bogeying four holes on his third round.

Day recorded six birdies in his card of two-under 69, although his round could have been better if not for bogeys on the sixth, ninth, 13th and 15th holes.

American duo Scott Piercy and Daniel Berger are six shots off the Australian's pace on 14-under for the tournament, despite Piercy's round of four-under, while Berger finished one under for the day.

Rory McIlroy moved into fourth place with a 67 round of four-under to move to 13-under for the competition, while Rickie Fowler notched the joint-best card of the day with a five-under 66 to leave himself eight shots off the pace.

Jordan Spieth left himself with a lot to do to bring himself back into contention by carding a one-over round, which included four bogeys at Conway Farms.
